Are You In God’s Will?

20 Questions to Discern God's Will in Your Life

Discerning God's will is a lifelong journey, not a destination. It's a process of prayer, reflection, and seeking guidance. While there's no magic formula, asking ourselves honest and probing questions can help us align our lives with God's purpose. These 20 questions are designed to spark that inner dialogue and help you test whether you are actively seeking and following God's will in your life:

Personal Reflection:

  1. What are my deepest passions and desires? (God often places desires within us that align with His plans.)

  2. What am I naturally good at? (Our talents and abilities are often clues to our purpose.)

  3. What burdens my heart? What issues do I care deeply about? (These can point to areas where God wants to use you.)

  4. Am I spending regular time in prayer and reading God's Word? (Consistent connection with God is essential for understanding His will.)

  5. Am I being honest with myself about my motives and intentions? (Self-deception can hinder us from seeing God's truth.)

  6. Am I willing to surrender my plans and desires to God? (Submission is key to following God's will.)

  7. Am I open to receiving correction and guidance from others? (God often speaks through trusted friends, family, and mentors.)

  8. Am I living a life of integrity and character? (Our actions should reflect our desire to follow God.)

  9. Am I prioritizing God's kingdom above my ambitions? (Selfishness can cloud our judgment.)

  10. Am I willing to step out in faith, even when afraid? (Following God often requires courage.)

Relational & Community:

  1. What do trusted Christian friends and family members advise me? (Godly counsel is invaluable in discerning His will.)

  2. Am I actively involved in a local church community? (The church provides support, accountability, and opportunities for service.)

  3. Am I using my gifts and talents to serve others? (Serving others is a key aspect of living out God's purpose.)

  4. Am I building healthy and supportive relationships? (Strong relationships help us grow in our faith and understanding God's will.)

  5. Am I seeking accountability from other Christians? (Accountability helps us stay on track and avoid temptation.)

Situational & Practical:

  1. What opportunities are presenting themselves in my life? (God often opens doors that align with His plans.)

  2. What are the circumstances surrounding my current situation? (Sometimes, God speaks through our circumstances.)

  3. Am I experiencing peace about the direction I'm heading? (Inner peace can be a confirmation of God's will.)

  4. Do I see any fruit from my efforts? (God often blesses and confirms our steps of faith.)

  5. Where will I be in five years if I continue on this path? Is that where I want to be, and does it align with what God wants for me? (Long-term vision can help clarify short-term decisions.)

It's important to remember that discerning God's will is a process, not a one-time event. Be patient and persistent, and continue to seek Him with all your heart. Don't be afraid to ask these questions regularly, and allow God to speak to you through His Word, prayer, and the wise counsel of others. He promises to guide those who seek Him.
